MetaTrader 4 multi-account orders in TraderDesk
TraderDesk can connect to MetaTrader 4 accounts using the login, password and server for an MT4 terminal on the same PC. It routes forex orders where your broker supports them. MT4 is a legacy platform that is generally not offered to US retail forex clients, so confirm availability with your broker before you rely on it.
What routes
What can you route on MetaTrader 4?
Legacy MT4 forex accounts. Segments below are the ones the current build shows. Your account still needs the permissions and data subscriptions the broker requires.
- Forex orders where your MT4 broker supports them.
- Several MT4 accounts, each with its own login and server.
- The MT4 terminal running locally on the same Windows PC.
- Per-account results after a multi-account order.
Setup
How to connect MetaTrader 4 to TraderDesk
Four steps. The exact labels differ in the broker's dashboard, but the sequence is the same.
- 01
Install and open MetaTrader 4
Install the MT4 terminal from your broker and sign in to the account you want to use.
- 02
Enable automated trading
In MT4, allow automated trading in the terminal options so the connection can send orders.
- 03
Add the account in TraderDesk
Enter the login, password and server exactly as supplied by your broker, then label the account.
- 04
Test on a demo account
Use an MT4 demo account first and confirm the symbol names and contract sizes before going live.
Before you go live
- MT4 is a legacy platform and is generally not offered to US retail forex clients.
- Availability depends on your broker, region and account type.
- Your broker must permit automated order flow on the account.
- Symbol names, suffixes and contract sizes differ by broker.
- The MT4 terminal must be running for the connection to work.
Multi-account
Can you trade several MetaTrader 4 accounts at once?
Add each account as its own connection, then tick the accounts you want on the order ticket. Each account reports its own result, so a rejection on one does not hide the outcome on another.
- Every account has its own label on the order ticket.
- The send button states how many accounts will receive the order.
- Results are shown per account after the order is sent.
- Risk limits are applied before routing, on your PC.
MetaTrader 4 questions
Common MetaTrader 4 questions
Can US traders use MT4 with TraderDesk?
MT4 is generally not offered to US retail forex clients. Availability depends on your broker and region. TraderDesk does not provide brokerage services and does not claim US retail availability.
Why does the MT4 connection fail?
Check that the terminal is running, the login, password and server match, and automated trading is enabled. Your broker may also need to permit API access.
Is MT4 still supported?
TraderDesk can connect to MT4 accounts, but MT4 is a legacy platform and broker support varies. Check with your broker before depending on it.
Can I connect more than one MT4 account?
Yes. Add each account with its own login and server, then select the ones you want on the order ticket.
