Risk disclosure
Trading through your broker accounts involves substantial risk of loss. TraderDesk is order-entry software; it does not provide investment, tax or legal advice and does not recommend any trade. This page sets out the main risks in plain language.
Full risk warning
TraderDesk is software for placing orders through your own brokerage accounts. It does not provide investment, tax or legal advice and does not recommend any trade. Trading stocks, options, futures, forex and crypto involves substantial risk of loss. Past performance and backtests do not guarantee future results. You are responsible for your orders and your broker relationships.
General market risk
Prices can move quickly and unexpectedly. You can lose some or all of the money you commit to a trade, and in some products you can lose more than your initial deposit. Never trade with money you cannot afford to lose.
Leverage
Futures, forex, CFDs and some options strategies use leverage. Leverage magnifies both gains and losses and can lead to margin calls or forced liquidation. Your broker’s margin rules apply, and they can change.
Options
Options can expire worthless. Selling options can create obligations that cost more than the premium received. Multi-leg strategies have their own risk profiles, and a strategy that looks defined on a payoff graph can still be affected by early assignment, liquidity, wide spreads, volatility changes and fees. Greeks and probability-of-profit figures are model estimates, not guarantees.
Futures
Futures are leveraged and can move limit-up or limit-down. A position can be liquidated involuntarily. Contract specifications, trading hours and margin requirements vary by exchange and broker.
Forex and CFDs
Forex and CFD trading is highly leveraged and may not be suitable for retail clients. CFDs are not available to US retail clients. MT4/MT5 availability varies by broker and region and is generally not offered to US retail forex clients.
Crypto
Where a connected broker offers crypto exposure, prices can be extremely volatile, markets can trade continuously, and liquidity can disappear. Custody, regulatory and tax treatment differ by provider and jurisdiction.
Market data and software
Quotes, option values, P&L and other data may be delayed, incomplete or wrong. Data can go stale, a connection can drop, or an order can be rejected or partially filled. Risk controls depend on correct configuration and on broker behaviour. Software cannot remove market, broker or connectivity risk.
Backtests and models
Backtests are simulations based on historical data and assumptions. They can be affected by missing data, fees, slippage, survivorship bias and overfitting. Past performance and backtests do not guarantee future results. A model probability is not a promise.
